We can also play party games with this song. {Party Songs History}
The song “Old Brass Wagon” dates back to 19th century rural America, where it was known as a “play party” song. Play parties arose in communities where dancing and playing musical instruments were banned. “Games” were allowed, however, and resourceful teenagers found ways to socialize and “dance” together by adapting songs and incorporating movement cues into the lyrics (i.e.,”circle to the left “). Nowadays, play party songs like this one are used primarily for young children’s activities.

Did you notice the suspenseful-sounding chord after each of the first two phrases and at the end? It is called an augmented 6th chord, which is a distinctive compositional technique of the Classical and Romantic periods in music. Listen (and echo) the tonal patterns after the song to experience the characteristic interval(Tritons)in an augmented 6th chord, heard in the 3rd pattern.

這是一首非常豐富情緒變化及戲劇感受的小調歌曲,有些聽覺比較敏感或者感受力比較強的孩子會因為它的調性,產生覺得悲傷的感覺,當他們不喜歡悲傷的感受時,他們會哭因為不想要聽到這首歌,或者會說怕怕,都是很正常的表現。大部分的孩子則會皺眉會者專注地聆聽,因為他們感受到不一樣的情緒和各種動物的模擬聲音在這首歌裡。
